If you are like most of the country, you have probably written the Miami Dolphins off this year! Many people have done that, and they may have the right to do so. They have gotten rid of their number 1 wide receiver in Jarvis Landry who has broken the record for most receptions through the first 4 years of a career. Jay Ajayi was traded to the Eagles for a fourth-round draft pick. In 2016 Jay Ajayi had 3 games in which he ran for 200+ yards. In 2017 he did not fare so well, but he got the Super Bowl ring. They also sent Ndamukong Suh to Los Angeles where he will team up with Aaron Donald who was one of the best defensive linemen in the league. This is why everyone has lost faith in the Miami Dolphins and they may have some good points.
Let’s look at some of the reasons we should be excited about the Dolphins upcoming season. The Miami Dolphins get their QB back in Ryan Tannehill. Many people are concerned about which Tannehill they will see. In 2016 he was coming on and beginning to step up as a franchise QB. The Dolphins lost 4 of their first 5 and the Dolphins and its fan base thought “here we go again”. Ryan Tannehill would go on to win the next 6 games in which he had 9 touchdowns to only 1 interception. He also had 1,300+ passing yards during that stretch.
Another player that people are not so sure about is Kenyan Drake. Drake appeared out of nowhere in the last 5 games of the season. If anyone actually watched those games he played in last year there is no doubt that he is the starting back. In the last 5 games he rushed for 440+ yards while having around 600 all-purpose yards.
The Dolphins defense will be the strength of this team if they play as good as they are on paper. With Cameron Wake, Rashad Jones, and the new first-round draft pick Minkah Fitzpatrick, they will be a top 15 defense. Who will step up for the Dolphins? Many people will say it is Kenny Stills, Davante Parker, Danny Amendola, Albert Wilson, or Frank Gore; however, there is another player on the team that has big play ability and can change the way a team game plans! Jakeem Grant is that player. We know how good he is on special teams, but when they inserted him into that offense, we watched in amazement as he made some of those plays. In that game versus Kansas City the world saw what Grant was made of as a receiver in this league. In the last 4 games he made plays jumping over guys bigger than him and he showed off his Yac when having the ball in his hands.
What do the Dolphins need to do in order to land them back in the playoffs? There is no doubt there are some talented individuals on this team, but they will need to come together as a team, they will not win on talent alone!
