I believe a lot of people lose when they don’t play sports, are not in debate club, or are not running for whatever bullshit you run for in high school like class president! When you grow up being lazy and not passionate about anything you either go get a job you hate or you wake up one day when you’re 30 and say, “I need to get my stuff together”. Either way you have missed out on a lot of life when you could have been winning and learning.
Notice that I said winning and learning! You never lose unless you give up! If I had a bad game, I made sure I was up at 4am perfecting my craft. I was getting faster, stronger, and mentally prepared for the next time I had the opportunity to go out and win. Although football is the ultimate team sport, at my position I was going one-on-one with my opponent; sometimes I got double teamed! The double team just means life is trying to fight back even harder. So what do you do when that happens? You fight even more to get better. At 14 while people were still asleep, I was up running sprints. When 14 year old kids were done with practice they went home took a shower, ate, and went to sleep. When I got home from practice I went for a run, I ran more sprints, and I lift weights until I couldn’t lift anymore.
Perfecting your craft is so important and understanding what it takes to win is even more important. When you know there is someone out there working just as hard as you; the question becomes, how can I work harder? You are not competing against anyone except the person you were yesterday! While you can use successful people or haters as motivation, it is important that you know that there is nobody like you on earth. Your dreams are different, your obstacles will be different, and your mentality is different! Never let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do!
In order to put yourself in a position to win, you must do the following:
1. Forget who you are. The image that you created or other people created of you is all bullshit!
2. Figure out who you are and what you want from life. Cars, houses, stuff, or self fulfillment.
3. Change your inner circle. If you’re hanging around losers you will become one.
4. Be present. Focus on winning wherever you are. Don’t focus on what you don’t have.
5. Just do it! Nike slogan is right. Anybody can talk shit, but successful people just do it!
When you practice these 5 strategies, you can change your life tremendously. Many of you will unfortunately look at this and understand it is good advice, but you will go on with your life feeling sorry for yourself and I am okay with that! For those of you that want to live life as a winner, I have given you the basic principles that you need in order to do so! Most people lose the “life game” because they give up! “It’s too hard” is the number 1 killer of dreams! When “it’s too hard” turns into “it’s hard and I love it”, that is when you will succeed! No matter how hard something is; if you believe in it, you will find a way to make it happen!
If you don’t believe enough in what you are doing, you will always make excuses!
