So many people today deal with anxiety and depression. The World Health Organization says, “Globally, more than 300 million people of all ages suffer from depression. Some people are absolutely crippled by this mental health condition. For many of us who have crawled out of that place, we know just how hard it is to do so. Most of us had different journeys in how we were able to fight our way back to the light, but we all can agree that it took a total shift in our thinking.
This means that you have to work out all the negative crap that is holding you back! I was in denial because I didn’t believe that anything like this would ever affect me! I thought depression was only for people who were suicidal. I didn’t know what depression was because I felt it would never happen because I was such an optimistic person. I had come to learn that wasn’t the case. When you feel like you have nothing to live for, it is a scary feeling. I am not a psychiatrist, but in dealing with depression if you do not solve whatever problems you are burdened with, it will eat you alive. Be honest with yourself because you do have a problem, and ignoring it won’t make it go away!
Talk to someone
Don’t be ashamed of whatever is haunting you. If you don’t know what it is let all of your demons out so you can start clean. People will feel however they want, but you can’t let that stop you. Talk to someone about; it could be your mom, dad, uncle, friend, spouse, etc. It is in our nature to help others and I promise someone will help. If you can seek the help of a counselor or psychologist, do that.
Get healthy & Active
When our body is filled with crap we feel like crap. If you feel like crap, your body and your mind suffer. Proper foods give you the nutrition you need in order to live and produce energy. Exercise has great benefits on the brain. Jim Kwik used the analogy; when your body moves, your brain grooves. Exercise reduces stress and improves mood. Because exercise lowers cortisol levels, we have more energy and we become less stressed! Also, when you look good, you feel good.
Set goals for your life
If you’re failing to plan, then you are planning to fail. This cliche rings true pretty much all of the time. If you don’t have goals then you are blind going into every situation. If you don’t have any goals how do you know what steps to take in order to get to where you want to be in the future. At a point in my depression, I couldn’t think and I had no desire to do anything. If you feel like that, push through. What is your passion? What was your passion? In which direction were you headed before you got lost and depressed? It will seem like all hope is lost, but you can get back to where you were by fighting through, finding something to be happy about, and figure out what you are driving towards that is bigger than yourself.
Fear can’t hold you back
This is the most difficult thing to control, and is also the reason for most of your anxiety; Many people with this mental disorder become affected by the fear of death. As a Christian, I have never been afraid of death up until the point that my mental health was compromised. I believed my purpose was greater than myself. You do not have to be religious to believe in spirituality. My faith in God had everything to do with crawling back into the light; so when you fear death it’s because you hold life as something that you can lose. In the spiritual realm is where you find life! The way you strive for success in how you help people will always be the greatest gift that you can give the world!
It is not going to be easy, but it is going to be worth it. Many people would rather a temporary fix from a round pill. That will not allow you to fix the real issues. That pill is just prolonging what you are going to eventually have to deal with. You are strong enough to fight this by using people that care about you, meditation, exercise, and a great mindset. These are things that you have to work at, but they are obtainable by all of you!
