Aren’t you done doing this on your own? Timothy 4:10

Do you find yourself always missing something in your life? It is the husband or wife you feel you deserve; it is another 5,000 a week in your bank account that will help you live comfortably; or maybe it’s that you think you need to move out of your parents house because you feel stuck. I have been there. It is almost a type of helplessness that you feel when you don’t have control over all aspects in your life.

We crave control as a natural instinct. When you here people say you’re controlling, they probably are talking about several instances when you wanted Christmas at your house 3 years in a row, but having a control issue is bigger than that. There are things that we just can’t control and some of us can’t handle that.

While you may think that “let it go” is a melody by Anna and Elsa, there is a little more to it. Letting go can mean a slew of things, but I am talking about relinquishing control. “But I have to have control in my own life”. No you don’t! You want control, but you don’t control your life. Whether you believe in the universe, karma, Buddha or whatever, we don’t have the power to control many things.

Believing in Jesus Christ gives us the power to let go of that control. The reason it gives you that serenity is because you can go through life knowing that no matter what happens you will be okay. There will be times when you don’t know how you’re going to pay the rent, but then you get a raise at work or another job. When you have given up hope that you are going to find a friend to spend the rest of your life with, you run into handsome Daniel at the neighborhood Starbucks.

This is the Jesus who is always on your side. If you believe that he died so that we may be saved, you know he won’t let you down. We get mad because their is evil and death in the world. Proverbs 28:5 says, “evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully”. Isaiah 57:1 says, “the righteous parishes, and no one takes it to heart; the faithfulness taken away, with no one realizing that the righteous person is taken away because of evil”.

Even if you are at a stage in life when you don’t trust the Bible, trust logic. There is evil because we have free will. People are free to do what they want. Whether you believe or don’t believe, death is going to happen. Death is not supposed to be a sad experience. I believe it is more selfish on the living to mourn the dead. “Those who walk up rightly enter into peace; they find rest, lying down in death.

We need to start to be at peace. We carry so much on the day-to-day basis. We think about our kids, our parents, our spouse, our siblings, our bills, and everything else. This is a never ending process; so it makes complete sense to me that when your soul passes on, you can finally be at rest.
